Margaret Teo

Group Chief Communications Officer at SMRT

Ms Margaret Teo heads the Corporate Communications Division and is the Chief Spokesperson for SMRT Group. She leads SMRT’s external and internal communication strategies, executing these across multiple channels targeting diverse stakeholder groups. In tandem with SMRT’s strategic objectives, Margaret drives strategic messaging, media relations, internal communications, corporate affairs, community engagement, corporate social responsibility, and online engagements through a myriad of new media platforms.

Margaret joined SMRT in August 2014 as Head, Corporate and Marketing Communications. She has over 20 years of experience in the areas of public relations and marketing communications. Prior to joining us, Margaret was Senior Vice President at then Singbridge International Pte Ltd, a developer and manager of integrated townships overseas. She also brings with her 20 years of experience from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), covering areas such as public communications, integrated marketing communications, stakeholder relations, and service quality. While in STB, Margaret also set up the Integrated Resorts Division and was intimately involved in the planning and development phases of the project up to the opening of the two integrated resorts in 2010. While in the Board, Margaret also led the crisis communications efforts during the SARS outbreak in 2003 and drove initiatives to reach out to the global tourism sector, including the post-SARS recovery programmes.

Margaret holds a distinction in Master of Business (International Marketing) from the Curtin University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the National University of Singapore. In 2009, she was awarded the Public Administration (Silver) medal for her contribution in the public sector.
