Markisha W.

Markisha W. has extensive experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion roles. Markisha is currently serving as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at SMUD since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as the Chief Executive at SMUD from August 2022 to December 2022.

Before joining SMUD, Markisha held the position of Director of the Bureau of Equity and Human Rights at the City of Portland from February 2019 to November 2021. Markisha also served as the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Oregon Department of Education from August 2013 to February 2019.

Markisha's experience also includes working as the Director of Undergraduate Teacher Education at Warner Pacific University from August 2012 to August 2013, and as an Assistant Professor at Western Oregon University from May 2011 to August 2012. Markisha started their career in academia as an Assistant Professor at Northern Michigan University from August 2008 to May 2011.

Markisha W. has a Doctorate in Education from Texas Southern University. Markisha also has a BA in English from The University of Memphis and a Masters in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
