Martin Lavallée

Head, Reproduction Rights at SOCAN

Martin Lavallée is responsible for the development of strategic solutions for the management of the reproduction right in order to maximize its value and defend it in the context of changing paradigms in the music industry.

He is also actively involved in legal issues concerning SOCAN, music rights organizations in general, and the copyright and business issues they face.

A graduate of the École des Hautes Études Commerciales and a member of the Quebec Bar for the past 25 years, Mr. Lavallée specializes in cultural industry management, intellectual property, and entertainment law. He has worked for government agencies such as the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), as well as for private audiovisual production and distribution companies and collective rights management societies. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSI, a pioneering joint venture in online music rights management in Canada. Long-time president of the Association des juristes pour l'avancement de la vie artistique (AJAVA), he is also a member of ALAI Canada.
