Matthew La Rocque is the Associate Director at Social Finance. Prior to joining Social Finance, they worked as a Program Officer on the Effectiveness Team at the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation from 2016 to 2020. During their time at the foundation, La Rocque was responsible for managing a portfolio of grants totaling over $100 million, providing strategic planning and implementation support for capacity building initiatives, and overseeing the foundation's communications agenda.
Before their work at the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, La Rocque served as a Research Analyst at The Institute for College Access & Success from 2013 to 2016. In this role, they conducted research on trends in college affordability and access, authored reports on these topics, and presented their findings to policymakers and the general public.
From 2012 to 2013, La Rocque was a Rappaport Public Policy Fellow and Consultant at the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE), where they provided research and analysis on education policy issues facing the city of Boston.
La Rocque has a wealth of experience in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, and is committed to improving social outcomes through effective policymaking and strategic grantmaking.
Matthew La Rocque holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley.
