Romeo Urjan is a seasoned nuclear energy professional with extensive experience in nuclear safety, technical support, and operations management. Currently serving as a member of the Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy (SAGNE) at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since March 2019, Romeo provides expert guidance on nuclear power, waste technology, and capacity building. Additionally, as the Director of Nuclear Safety and Technical Support, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Refurbishment at Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica SA since May 2015, Romeo oversees significant nuclear projects, including the refurbishment of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1. Previous roles include President of the Romanian Association of Nuclear Energy and Vice President of ROMATOM, along with leadership positions at Ontario Power Generation and Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant. Romeo holds an MSc in Nuclear Engineering from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and an MBA from The Open University in the United Kingdom.
