Michelle Montgomery is the current Project Director at Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Prior to this, they were the Associate Project Management Director at Astellas Pharma for 8 years and 8 months. Her responsibilities included managing complex new product development projects from proposal to commercialization, as well as coordinating post-approval life-cycle management activities. Michelle also developed and implemented risk and opportunity management strategies. Before Astellas Pharma, they were the Senior Project Director at Targacept, Inc. for 5 years and 1 month. There, they were responsible for re-engineering and building Targacept’s Project Management systems and practices; including portfolio stage-gate decision structure with a standardized gate criteria, project decision-making process, and project development planning. Michelle also created and implemented new project management templates for project management and governance committees. Michelle Montgomery has also worked as the Global Project Leader at Intervet (now Merck Animal Health) for 3 years and 8 months, and as the Clinical Research Specialist – Pharmaceuticals for 1 year and 9 months.

Michelle Montgomery received their PhD from Texas Tech University in 2001, with a focus on muscle biology. Michelle also holds degrees from Iowa State University and Texas Tech University, and an associate degree from College of the Sequoias. In addition, they is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
