Previous positions include Outreach Coordinator at the National Woodland Owners Association and Forestry Continuing Education Program Coordinator at North Carolina State University. Additionally, Kelley directed outreach efforts at the University of Washington's College of Forest Resources and has a background in sales with International Paper. Academic qualifications include dual Bachelor's degrees in Forestry Management and Natural Resource Administration from North Carolina State University.
