Marisa Plescia

Marisa Plescia currently serves as Vice President and Vice President Elect of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists HQ and has been the Chair of the Society's Twin Cities Chapter since November 2020. With extensive experience at Bell International Laboratories from April 2017 to January 2025, Marisa progressed through various roles including Senior Product Innovation Chemist and Senior Cosmetic R&D Chemist, contributing to formulation and product development. Prior to this, Marisa worked as a Research Scientist at NakedPoppy and completed an R&D internship at The Honest Company. Additionally, Marisa has significant educational experience as the Department Head of Science at Fusion Academy, where teaching responsibilities included a range of science and math subjects. Marisa holds multiple master's degrees in Cosmetic Science, Business Administration, and Education, along with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Santa Clara University.

Society of Cosmetic Chemists HQ

Society of Cosmetic Chemists is a non-profit organization based in the United States. Dedicated to the advancement of cosmetic science, the Society strives to increase and disseminate scientific information through meetings and publications. By promoting research in cosmetic science and industry, and by setting high ethical, professional and educational standards, we reach our goal of improving the qualifications of cosmetic scientists. Our mission is to further the interests and recognition of cosmetic scientists while maintaining the confidence of the public in the cosmetic and toiletries industry. The first Chapter of the Society was formed in 1948 and was known as the Chicago Chapter. The Society now has a total of 19 chapters across the country and Canada. Chapters serve as the lifeblood of the Society and are run by dedicated volunteers who give of their time and expertise. Most Chapters conduct monthly meetings and hold educational seminars for members in their area. A few chapters have supplier exhibits and social events. Almost all 19 chapters publish their own newsletters. Membership numbers in Chapters vary from 35 members in our smallest chapter to 1400 in our largest chapter. No matter how large or small, all Chapters work for the goals of the Society which is the advancement of cosmetic science.
