Sam Kais

Director, Fundamentals Of Critical Care Support at Society of Critical Care Medicine

Sam Kais has extensive work experience in the medical field. Sam is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Central Michigan University College of Medicine, where they started in 2022. Sam is also serving as a Trauma Surgeon, General Surgeon, and Surgical Intensivist at MyMichigan Medical Center since 2022. Prior to these roles, they worked as the Director of Fundamentals of Critical Care Support at the Society of Critical Care Medicine from 2016 onwards. In 2015, they worked as a Site Reviewer for the Trauma Systems Verification & Designation Committee at the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services and as the Director of Advanced Trauma Life Support at the American College of Surgeons. From 2019 to 2023, they served as the Medical Director at Beaumont Health. Sam also has experience as Chairman of the Michigan Region 3 Trauma Advisory Committee from 2017 to 2019. Earlier in their career, they held multiple roles at St. Mary's of Michigan, including Medical Director of Trauma Surgery Services, Chief of Surgery, and Medical Director of Surgical & Trauma Critical Care, from 2012 to 2019. Sam started their career as an Assistant Professor of Surgery/Trauma Surgeon/General Surgeon/Surgical Intensivist at Central Michigan University from 2011 to 2019. Sam also completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Michigan Health System in 2012.

Sam Kais has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology, General from the University of Michigan, which was obtained from 1995 to 1999. Following this, from 1999 to 2001, Sam pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Physiology & Basic Medical Science at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Continuing their education at the same institution, Sam earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine from 2001 to 2005.
