Hardware Engineer at Sofar Ocean

Nicholas Merritt has had a diverse work experience. In 2021, they began working as a Field Engineer and Boat Operations and Hardware Engineering Intern for Sofar Ocean. In 2019, they were a Physics, Astronomy, and Computer Science Tutor, providing remote instruction to students from around the country in math, physics, programming, machine learning, and astronomy. Nicholas also served as an Assistant Cross Country Ski Coach for Lander Middle School. In 2018, they were a Cornell Astronomy Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Cornell University, working with Dr. Phil Nicholson to analyze stellar occultations by Saturn's atmosphere taken by Cassini's Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS). In 2015, they worked as a Solar Installer for Creative Energies Solar, and as a Research Assistant for the Palau International Coral Reef Center, where they built and maintained underwater experiment apparatus, took transects to count species in study areas, and reviewed experimental footage to identify species.

Nicholas Merritt attended Colorado College from 2015 to 2019, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Physics with a Comprehensive Emphasis and a minor in Computer Science.
