Soft Rains
Joel Burgess is a highly experienced game developer with a diverse background in both AAA and indie game development. As the Studio Head and co-founder of Soft Rains since November 2022, Joel leads a team focused on creating a first-person science-fiction adventure game using Unreal Engine 5. Joel serves on the Board of Directors for Interactive Ontario, working to enhance the professional landscape for game developers in the province. Previous roles include Studio Director at Capybara Games, where strategic goals were set for various projects, and World Director at Ubisoft Toronto, overseeing the open world design of Watch Dogs Legion. Joel's extensive experience also includes senior design roles at Bethesda Game Studios on major franchises like Elder Scrolls and Fallout, as well as earlier positions in design and art at Terminal Reality, Dezign Corp, and UCF GAMES Lab. Joel holds a BA in Digital Media: Interactive Media from the University of Central Florida.
