Siavash Zokai

Senior Research Engineer at SoftWorks

Siavash Zokai has extensive work experience in the field of computer vision and image processing. Siavash is currently working as a Senior Research Engineer at SoftWorks AI, where they are responsible for improving the quality of noisy scanned documents. Siavash has developed a Bilateral filter to suppress noise and implemented a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to enhance the quality of letters in binary scanned documents. Siavash is also responsible for data extraction from unstructured documents such as pay stubs.

Prior to their current role, Siavash co-founded NailPoint Art LLC in 2017 and served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Siavash developed proprietary software and hardware to create 3D nail art from photos, using thousands of nails to reproduce the detail and tonality of the images. Siavash served in this role until December 2019.

From 2004 to 2017, Siavash worked at Brainstorm Technology LLC as a Senior Research Scientist, specializing in computer vision and image processing. Siavash developed a vector-based software system to create Greco-Roman mosaic art from photos, where the software automatically subdivided the domain into tiles that mimic the style. The system also selected the optimal color, texture, and material for each tile from an inventory.

Siavash also worked as a Consultant at Siemens Corporate Research from December 2002 to April 2003. Siavash worked on tracking and calibration of optical see-through Heads-Up Displays (HUD) and developed algorithms for augmented reality (AR) applications in the industrial workplace. Prior to their consultancy role, they had also completed an internship at Siemens Corporate Research from May 2002 to August 2002, where they worked on similar projects involving HUD tracking and calibration as well as AR applications.

Siavash Zokai obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, where they studied from 1984 to 1989. Siavash then pursued their education at The City University of New York, earning a Master's degree in Computer Science from 1995 to 1997. Siavash Zokai further advanced their academic qualifications at The City University of New York, completing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from 1997 to 2004.
