Joanne Been has a diverse range of work experience. Joanne has worked as Acting Head of Brand and Marketing Campaigns at the Sydney Opera House since 2017. Prior to that, they held the role of Brand & Media Manager at EY from 2015 to 2017, where they developed and executed digital content marketing campaigns. Joanne also worked as a Communications Consultant at TEDxSydney in 2017. In previous roles, Joanne was a Communications Executive at Sparke Helmore from 2013 to 2015, a Communications Specialist at Chadbourne & Parke LLP in 2012, and a Communications Intern at Human Rights First in 2011. Joanne also has legal experience, having worked as a Lawyer at Allens Arthur Robinson from 2008 to 2011, a Legal Advisor at Arts Law Centre Australia from 2009 to 2010, and a Legal Advisor at PILCH Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic from 2008 to 2010. Prior to their legal career, Joanne worked as a Project Associate at the NSW Electoral Commission in 2011, where they developed and advised on policies and procedures related to compliance and enforcement activities.

Joanne Been has a diverse education history. In 2002, they began their academic journey at the University of Technology Sydney where they pursued a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Communications. Joanne completed their degrees in 2007. In 2014, Joanne attended AdSchool, specializing in Brand Strategy and Development as well as Strategic Planning Principles. The following year, in 2015, they attended General Assembly and obtained a degree in Digital Marketing.
