Archibald E. Asawa

Executive Vice President for Finance & Administration at Soka University of America

Archibald E. Asawa joined Soka University of America in March 1998. Asawa’s responsibilities include the overall management of the university’s operations, including budget, finance, endowment, information technology, development, community relations, facilities and landscape management, purchasing, environmental health and safety, security, events, contracts management, and auxiliary businesses. He currently serves as the university’s chief investment officer, managing a $1.2 billion endowment.

He is active in the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), currently on the NACUBO Board of Directors, also having served as the past chair of NACUBO’s Small Institutions Council and National Awards Committee. He is also currently serving on the Board of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO) and recently served as Program Chair for WACUBO’s Seattle 2017 Annual Conference.

Prior to joining the university, Asawa worked as a management consultant to Fortune 500 corporations, universities, and public sector agencies since the 1980s. He also served as Special Advisor to the Mayor and Manager of Special Projects for Mayor Richard J. Riordan, City of Los Angeles.

Asawa received his BA in Economics from Yale University and attended the doctoral program in management at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management, focusing on strategy and organization.
