Bill Browning

Bill Browning is interested in the interaction of the built and natural environment and how that supports health and wellbeing. In 1991, he founded Green Development Services at the Rocky Mountain Institute. Clients included Wal-Mart, the White House, Disney, LucasFilm and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Village. In 2006, Bill co-founded Terrapin Bright Green LLC, an environmental strategies research and consulting firm. He advises corporations, governments, and large-scale real estate developments. Clients include PNB Malaysia, New Songdo City, Interface, Google, Bank of America and the National Geographic Society. His work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Elle and Popular Science, and he has been interviewed by NPR, CNN, Reuters and PBS. Bill writes and lectures on sustainable design and building practices and is co-author of Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Real Estate; A primer on Sustainable Building; Greening the Building and the Bottom Line and many other publications. Bill received a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, University of Colorado and Master of Science in Real Estate Development, MIT. In 2001 he was selected honorary member of the American Institute of Architects, in 2004 he received the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership Award and in 2015 the American Society of Interior Designers’ Design for Humanity Award.
