David Ashby

David Ashby is a seasoned materials science professional with extensive experience in battery technology and electrochemical design. Currently serving as the Manager of Cell Design at Solid Power, Inc. since March 2022, David oversees the electrochemical design team focused on solid-state battery innovations for electric vehicles. Prior roles include serving as a Cell Development Engineer, where David designed experiments to enhance cell performance and safety, and as a Materials and Process Engineer at Sandia National Laboratories, where involvement in cross-functional teams addressed material failures and development of advanced coatings. David also contributed as a Battery Engineer at UCLA, leading student initiatives in a Department of Energy-funded effort, and previously worked as an Electroplating Manufacturing Engineer at HRL Laboratories and a Laboratory Research Assistant at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. David holds a PhD and a BS in Materials Science and Engineering from UCLA.
