Devon Patterson

A Principal at SCB, Devon Patterson has 30+ years of experience working on major urban residential, mixed-use, commercial office, and higher education projects, resulting in an award-winning portfolio of work. As one of the firm’s leaders in high- and mid-rise residential and mixed-use development design, Devon’s approach centers on creating buildings that enrich their unique urban environments. He is committed to reducing resource consumption and works to integrate sustainable design strategies that conserve energy and maximize occupant comfort into all of his projects. He is a leader in the field of hybrid mixed-use buildings that are designed to support density as an urban growth strategy.

Devon’s recent work includes projects across the country including the Four Seasons Hotel & Private Residences, a mixed-use luxury condominium and five-star hotel development in Nashville, TN; the Reston, a mixed-use residential and office building in Reston, VA; Hub50House, a 38-story residential tower in Boston, MA; and a mid-rise residential building in Shaker Heights, OH, transforming a suburban Town Center into an urban walkable neighborhood. He is also currently engaged in projects in emerging urban markets including Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Milwaukee.

In addition to his commercial practice, Devon led the decade-long transformation of Loyola University Chicago’s three campuses, designing over 10 new buildings. Devon’s commitment to sustainability is evident in all three campuses through innovative active and passive energy reduction strategies including naturally ventilated, double-skin glass façades; hydronic-radiant floors; and geothermal heating and cooling systems.

Devon frequently speaks publicly on issues relating to urban design and residential innovation. He is a long-time member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Chicago Architecture Center and is active in the U.S. Green Building Council and Design Futures Council. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Pennsylvania State University.
