John Carpenter has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. John began their career in 1968 as a Manufacturing Associate at W. D. Carpenter Co., a family-owned business involved in the manufacturing of vitamin-enriched feed and janitorial products. John then worked at RadioShack as an Assistant Manager and Sales Associate from 1971 to 1984. John moved into the banking industry in 1981, starting as a Vice President and Commercial Lending Officer at The Merchants National Bank & Trust Co. John eventually became the Chief Credit Officer and Vice President of the same bank from 1988 to 1993 before it merged with OnBank & Trust Co / Merchants National Bank, where they held the same position until 1998. John then joined NBT Bank as the Chief Credit Officer & Corporate Senior Vice President, overseeing credit analysis, appraisals, and commercial workout. John served in this role until 2014 when they moved to T Gschwender & Associates, Inc. as the Chief Credit Officer, providing consulting services to financial institutions. In 2017, John transitioned to Solvay Bank as the Senior Vice President & Chief Credit Officer. In addition to their professional roles, John also served as the President of the Empire Chapter of The Risk Management Association Inc. from 2013 to 2016. John Carpenter attended Westhill High School from 1968 to 1972, where they obtained a Regents Diploma with a focus on Science and Math. John then went on to Bryant & Stratton College from 1972 to 1974, earning an Associates Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Economics and Finance. Following this, from 1974 to 1977, they attended Onondaga Community College, obtaining an Associate of Arts and Sciences (A.A.S.) degree in Banking Degree (American Institute of Banking). From 1977 to 1980, John pursued further education at the American Institute of Banking, earning an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law. From 1980 to 1984, they studied at the Risk Management Association, focusing on Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law. Additionally, from 1984 to 1986, they underwent training at the University at Buffalo for Advanced Commercial Lending School, specializing in Commercial banking. Finally, from 1984 to 1988, John Carpenter attended Syracuse University and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Finance from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. John majored in Finance, General during their time there. Alongside their education, John holds membership in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary-Commander as an active member and is a General Class Amateur Radio holder. John also holds the certification of a notary public.
