Sean Hundtofte

Sean Hundtofte has a diverse and extensive work experience in the finance industry. Sean is currently the Founder/CEO of Solve Finance since 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Independent Financial Consultant and Investment Manager, advising FinTechs on capital raising and business optimization from 2011 to 2020. Sean also engaged in more than $1 billion worth of acquisitions in distressed NPLs and residential mortgage deals.

From 2018 to 2020, Sean served as the Chief Economist, Head of Credit Risk, and Head of Acquisitions at Better.com, where they led data analysis and optimization efforts and drove business strategies based on those findings.

Sean was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU Stern School of Business from 2018 to 2020, where they shared their expertise in finance.

Before that, they worked as a Financial Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2016 to 2018, focusing on researching and analyzing topics related to banking, household finance, and financial distress.

From 2007 to 2011, Sean was an Analyst at Värde Partners, specializing in consumer finance investments, managing private credit deals and the residential mortgage business.

Prior to that, they worked as an Associate at Bridgewater Associates and Obsidian Finance Group LLC, where they focused on portfolio construction, risk analysis, distressed private equity, and special situations.

Sean's early career included roles as a Summer Associate at Barclays Capital in 2004, trading convertible bonds and researching financial market trends, as well as an Associate at Lehman Brothers from 2001 to 2003, conducting fixed income research on US Treasuries and their derivatives.

Sean Hundtofte has an extensive education history. Sean obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Financial Economics from Yale University, where they studied from 2011 to 2016. Prior to this, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Yale School of Management from 2003 to 2005. Sean also pursued a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) in Computer Science (Computer Integrated Surgery) from The Johns Hopkins University, studying from 1999 to 2001. Before that, they attended The University of Freiburg from 1997 to 1998, where they studied Kognitionswissenschaft (Cognitive Science). Sean Hundtofte began their higher education journey by completing their Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc(hons)) in Computer Science from the University of Glasgow, where they studied from 1993 to 1997.

In addition to their formal education, Sean Hundtofte has also obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification from the CFA Institute in June 2005.
