Nicholas Clermont

Nicholas Clermont has over 12 years of professional experience. From 2016 to present, they have been the Founder, Chief Design Officer, and Chief Operation Officer of SomaDetect, a company that helps dairy farmers assess milk quality, diagnose cow diseases and improve management practices. Nicholas has grown the company from 3 to 25 employees and commercialized an inline milk quality sensor and data visualization software. In 2016, they also founded and became President of Artfel, a youth entrepreneurship engagement project connecting youth and entrepreneurs aiming to foster creativity and innovation. Additionally, they have provided design thinking and design methodology consulting services to startups and the Pond-Deshpande center at the University of New Brunswick. From 2008 to present, they have been an Adjunct Lecturer at Université Laval, teaching Design Methodology for Engineers and providing experience with teaching different design methods, as well as preparing and delivering lectures, workshops and other educational activities. From 2006 to 2009, they were the Program Director at SHAD Network, where they hired and trained a team of 11 staff members, supervised different program teams, and provided Risk management training and supervised risk management process. From 2009 to 2010, they were an Intern for Fair Trade Outreach at Engineers Without Borders Canada, where they designed a Canada-wide program with Loblaws to promote Fair Trade Certified products and provided support to student chapters across Canada. Lastly, from 2007 to 2008, they were the Strategic Coordinator for Sustainable Development at Roche ltée, Groupe-conseil, where they developed strategic plans to integrate sustainability consulting amongst the services offered, developed a training program for employees on sustainability and sustainable design, and provided training to project management engineers and upper management on sustainable design and practices.

Nicholas Clermont obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Université Laval in 2009, with a field of study in International/Global Studies. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) from the same university in 2006, with a field of study in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Entrepreneurship. In 2016, they enrolled in B4C - Social entreprise accelerator, though no degree or field of study was noted. No additional certifications were listed.
