Paulina Mitropoulos

Director, Multilingual Learner Education at Somerville Public Schools

Paulina Mitropoulos has a diverse range of work experience in the education sector. Paulina is currently working as the Director of Multilingual Learner Education at Somerville Public Schools since July 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Program Coordinator and Program and Assessment Specialist for Multilingual Learner Education at the same institution from August 2019 to June 2022.

In addition to their role at Somerville Public Schools, Paulina has also worked as an Educational Consultant for the English Learners Success Forum starting in August 2021. Paulina has been an Adjunct Faculty at Lesley University and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Boston since May 2020.

Paulina's previous experience includes leadership positions at Boston Public Schools, where they were the Leader of Teaching and Learning at Rafael Hernández PreK-8 Dual Language School from August 2015 to August 2019, and the Director of ELL Services and Professional Development at the Office of English Learners from July 2013 to August 2015. Paulina has also worked as an SEI Instructor for RETELL at the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education from July 2013 to June 2017.

Before joining Boston Public Schools, Paulina was a Founding Grade 5 ESL Teacher at Excel Academy Charter Schools from July 2012 to June 2013. Paulina also served as a Policy Fellow for the NYC Department of Education at Leadership for Educational Equity in June 2012.

Paulina's early teaching experience includes being an ESL Teacher (grades 6-8) at Revere Public Schools from July 2009 to June 2012, where they started their career as a Corps Member for Teach For America in Massachusetts from July 2009 to June 2011.

Paulina Mitropoulos completed a Graduate Certificate in Bilingual Special Education at The George Washington University from 2011 to 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University, graduating in 2011. Paulina also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University, which they received in 2009. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications in various education-related areas, including Bilingual Education Endorsement in Spanish, ESL (PreK-12), Elementary (1-6), and Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8). Paulina also holds certifications for Principal/Assistant Principal (PreK-12), SEI Administrator & Teacher Endorsement, and Supervisor/Director.
