Melanie Hoad

Melanie Hoad currently serves as VP, Head of Legal and Compliance at Sompo, overseeing the legal and compliance functions for Canadian operations of a property and casualty insurance company since January 2025. Prior to this role, Melanie held several senior positions at CNA Insurance, including VP, Head of Legal, Risk and Compliance, where responsibilities involved managing legal advice and support for various business units. With extensive experience in insurance defense litigation from positions at Chubb and Dooley Barristers, along with early legal practice at Beard Winter LLP, Melanie has a robust background in diverse areas of law, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management. Academic credentials include an LL.B. from Western University and a B.A. from McGill University. Melanie is also a member of Counselwell, a community for in-house lawyers seeking professional growth.
