Luis Villa

Luis Villa is a seasoned legal professional with a strong focus on open source, technology, and community engagement. Currently serving as Vice President of Legal at Sonar since January 2025, Luis leads product counseling at a startup at the forefront of code quality and AI. Previously, as Co-Founder and General Counsel at Tidelift from 2017 to February 2025, Luis advanced open source initiatives that supported developers and improved enterprise compliance. Luis's extensive experience includes leadership roles at the Wikimedia Foundation, where management of the Community Engagement Department and the legal department occurred, and work as an Associate at Greenberg Traurig, LLP focusing on technology transactions. Luis also holds a JD from Columbia Law School and a BA in Political Science from Duke University.
