Vivian Hobbins

Program Manager, Growing Water Smart at Sonoran Institute

Vivian is the Program Manager of the US-MX Border Growing Water Smart Program at Sonoran Institute since December 2022. She graduated with honors from Sonora Technological Institute (ITSON), with bachelor’s degree as a Civil Engineer. After graduation she completed a master’s degree in Natural Resources and then a PhD in Ecohydrology. Vivian is very passionate about water sustainability, a field in which she has more than 10 years of experience. She started her early career working as a project manager for the water and sewer utility company at her hometown. Then after completing her PhD, she studied the effects of extreme climate related events on water availability and urban infrastructure.

Before joining Sonoran Institute, Vivian served as adjunct instructor and faculty support in the College of Science at the Grand Canyon University. She is interested in collaborating with communities to find holistic solutions that improve water sustainability in the region. Vivian enjoys spending time with her family, exploring Colorado. Growing up she was a professional swimmer, spending her evenings swimming between 6-10 miles a day.
