Martin Mares is an accomplished researcher with extensive experience in historical consultation and advisory roles. Since October 2018, Martin has been a researcher at the University of Oxford and has held positions such as consultant at Sotheby's specializing in historic maritime collectibles since July 2022. Martin’s expertise spans various media projects, including serving as a historical advisor for the April 2023 series "Those About to Die," and as a historical consultant for the film "The Last Voyage of the Demeter." Additional contributions include work with ARTE on the documentary "The True Story of Pirates" and television presentations for Gedeon Media Group. Martin also has a background in providing consultancy for Channel 4 and National Geographic. Educational qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in History from UCL and a Master of Arts in Humanities from Anglo-American University, Prague.
