Joel McKenzie

Joel McKenzie has diverse work experience in software engineering and management roles. Joel started their career in 2007 as a Sales Associate at SportChek before transitioning to be a Carpenter at Patios & Clotures Beaulieu. Joel then joined Nuance Communications in 2013 as an NLP Research Engineer, where they contributed to the development of a natural language generation engine and maintained backend systems. In 2017, they joined SoundHound as a Software Engineer, and over the years, they progressed to the roles of Senior Software Engineer, Staff Software Engineer, and Principal Software Engineer. At SoundHound, Joel led various projects, including modernizing the tech stack, upgrading development tools, and implementing improvements to the NLP engine. Joel also managed a team and played a key role in technology research and project management.

Joel McKenzie earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from McGill University from 2009 to 2013. Joel'sstudies focused on a joint major in Computer Science and Physics, with a minor in Mathematics.
