David Buckley

Darragh O'donoghue Astronomer At SAAO at South African Astronomical Observatory

David Buckley is a distinguished astronomer with extensive experience in both observational and research roles. Currently serving as the Darragh O'Donoghue Astronomer at the South African Astronomical Observatory since 2017, and as an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town and Affiliate Professor at the University of the Free State since April 2021, Buckley has significantly contributed to the field. Previous positions include SALT Science Director and Astronomy Operations Manager at the Southern African Large Telescope from 2005 to 2015, and Project Scientist from 1998 to 2004. Buckley's career began as a Senior Astronomer at the South African Astronomical Observatory from 1991 to 1998, following a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Cape Town from 1988 to 1991. Buckley holds a Doctor of Philosophy from The Australian National University and a Master of Science from the University of Canterbury.
