Kevin Govender

Director: IAU Office Of Astronomy For Development at South African Astronomical Observatory

Kevin Govender's work experience began in 2001 at NECSA, where they worked as a Fast Neutron Scientist, focusing on industrial applications of nuclear technology. Kevin also conducted experiments using particle accelerators and radioactive isotopes. In 2006, they joined the South African Astronomical Observatory, where they held two roles. As the Manager of the SALT Collateral Benefits Division, they managed a team and oversaw education, outreach, and community development programs. Later, they became the first Director of the International Astronomical Union's Office of Astronomy for Development, where they coordinated a global network of volunteers, project leaders, and funders.

Kevin Govender completed a Management Development Programme in Business Administration and Management at Stellenbosch University in 2014. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2000. Kevin also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics and Computer Science from the same university, which they completed from 1997 to 1999.
