Nathan Lukkes has a diverse work experience. Nathan started their career as the Legal Services Director at the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation in 2009, where they worked until 2012. Nathan then joined the South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development as the Deputy Commissioner from 2012 to 2014. From 2014 to the present, they have been associated with the South Dakota Board of Regents, holding various positions including Assistant Vice President for Research & Economic Development, General Counsel, and currently serves as the Executive Director & CEO.
Nathan Lukkes received their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Political Science from the University of South Dakota in 2003. Nathan then pursued further education and completed their Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from The University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law in 2006.

The Board of Regents has constitutional authority to govern the system of public higher education in the state of South Dakota. The Board, supported by an executive director and staff, provides leadership and sets policies for programs and services delivered by its six public universities and two schools serving special K-12 populations. The Board aims to ensure that SDBOR and its affiliated institutions, are desirable places to work, learn, and grow both professionally and personally for our employees.
