Mike Lockrem

Mike Lockrem is the current Director of Marketing and Communications at South Dakota State University. Prior to their current position, Lockrem worked as the Corporate Communications Manager at VeraSun Energy from April 2007 to May 2009. In this role, they were responsible for development of comprehensive marketing and communications initiatives, including events with Fortune 500 companies; working directly with national and international media to secure interview opportunities, developing communications around earnings calls, acquisitions and mergers; developing strategies to enforce brand and business development; and serving as a company spokesperson for media and public events. From August 2006 to February 2007, Lockrem served as the Director of Public Relations for POET Companies. In this role, they coordinated the company's primary strategic messages through executive management and key company personnel. Mike also developed communications targeted at local, state and national politicians. Prior to their positions at VeraSun Energy and POET Companies, Lockrem served as the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics from December 2003 to August 2006 and as the Assistant Communications Director at the University of Minnesota Athletic Department from July 1997 to May 2000.

Mike Lockrem has a Master's of Education from the University of Minnesota in Kinesiology and a Bachelor's of Arts from the University of Montana in Journalism. Mike is certified from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Senior Officials Workshop for All-Hazards Prepardness (National Emergency Response and Rescure Training Center).
