John Alpers

John Alpers is an accomplished music educator and performer with extensive experience in orchestral and band direction. Currently serving as the Orchestra Director at Lowell Elementary School since August 2024, John has also played the Bass Trombone for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra since September 1989. Previously, John was a Substitute Music Teacher for the Sioux Falls School District from October 2018 to September 2024 and the Director of Bands at Vermillion High School from 1990 to 2018. Earlier in the career, John directed bands at Randolph Public Schools from 1984 to 1988. Academic qualifications include a Master of Music Performance in Low Brass from the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa.
