Andy Bates

Andy Bates is the CEO and Head of Paid Service at South Hams District Council. Andy has over 20 years of experience working in local government, including stints as a Principal Adviser for the Local Government Association and as Head of Programmes for Improvement Services at the Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government. Bates has also worked as an Inspector/Performance Specialist at the Audit Commission. In their current role, they are responsible for the overall management and performance of the council, as well as providing strategic advice and support to political leaders and chief executives on a full range of issues affecting local government.
