Associate Consultant: Agricultural Value Chains Team at South Pole

Shelby Smith is a seasoned consultant and board member with extensive experience in sustainable agriculture and environmental policy. Currently serving as the Deforestation & Conversion Free Co-Lead at South Pole since May 2025, Shelby focuses on agricultural supply chain decarbonization, net zero roadmapping, and supplier engagement. Shelby is also a board member for both Montana Backcountry Alliance and the Sustainability Board for the City of Bozeman, providing strategic guidance on community-impacting policies. Previous roles include Food Systems Resilience Scientist at The Nature Conservancy and multiple consulting positions at South Pole, where responsibilities included conducting risk assessments and managing knowledge for agricultural value chains. Shelby holds a Master's degree in Water Resource Management and Economics from Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, alongside a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.
