Lead Veterinary Technician - Pharmacy & Lab at Southeast Veterinary Neurology

MAJOR PHARMACY DUTIES

● Prepare oral medications for in and out-patient use. Ensure quality control by confirming accurate

patient information, directions and quantities dispensed.

● Maintain controlled substance safe:

○ Hold full stock of injectable controlled substances

○ Place orders for controlled substances using the DEA-222 form.

● Maintain full pharmacy inventory, working closely with the Lead Veterinary Technician to place

weekly inventory orders, maintain quarterly ABC reports, controlled substance logs and inventory levels.

● Call in prescription requests from owners into outside pharmacies as needed.

● Ability to clearly document ALL medications dispensed or called in to outside pharmacies.

● Review Pharmacy protocols for efficiency and update accordingly.

● Maintain an organized work space and develop a method for filled RXs to be picked up by staff or owners.

MAJOR LAB DUTIES

● Run in house lab work as needed.

● Have a strong familiarity with frequently run lab tests and what specific requirements they have (tubes to be sent, turn-around time, shipping requirements, etc.)

● Ensure all lab specimens are clearly labeled.

● Prepare lab specimens for pick up (Antech/Idexx).

● Contact UPS/FedEx as needed to coordinate specimen transport.

● Maintain an accurate log of all specimens run in house, and those sent to outside laboratories.

● Track all laboratory results as they are sent to SEVN and alert the

neurologist’s exam room technician that the results are in.
