James Williams has a diverse range of work experience in the field of information technology, primarily within the banking industry. James started their career at Sprint Nextel as a PC Support Specialist in 1993. In 1996, they joined Centura Bank as an IT Services Delivery Manager and stayed until 2000. In 1993, James joined RBC as an Information Security Manager and remained there until 2011. From 2011 to 2014, they served as the SVP and Director of Information Technology at Hampton Roads Bankshares. James then moved to Xenith Bank (formerly Hampton Roads Bankshares) and held the position of Chief Information Officer from 2014 to 2016. James also worked as an Information Technology Governance Consultant at RBC from 2016 to 2017. Currently, they hold the position of SVP and Director of Information Technology at Southern Bank and Trust Company since 2017.
James Williams earned a Bachelor's Degree in Management of Technology from Kennedy Western University between 2005 and 2007. James also achieved a Certificate of Achievement in Microprocessor Design and Electronic Engineering from ECPI University between 1983 and 1984. Additionally, they obtained certifications including the GIAC Security Leadership Certification (GSLC) from SANS in January 2011, and the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification from ISACA in May 2009.
