Southern Nevada Health District
Kent Wirtz is an experienced Environmental Health Specialist at the Southern Nevada Health District since February 2002. Additionally, Kent serves as an Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Outdoor Natural History at the University of Nevada since May 1974. Prior to these roles, Kent worked as a Senior Environmental Scientist at SAIC from March 1986 to November 2001. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, and Ecology obtained from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas between 1973 and 1983.

This mission of the Health District is, “To assess, protect, and promote the health, the environment, and the well-being of Southern Nevada communities, residents, and visitors.” To this end, the Health District offers services and provides regulatory supervision that impact the public every day – from the food they eat and the water they drink, to the public establishments they visit, the businesses they operate and the requirements they must meet in order to work in certain industries such as food service and child care.
