Eugene Painter is an experienced professional in the nuclear energy sector, currently serving as the Principal Outage Specialist at Southern Nuclear for the Vogtle 3/4 projects since July 2015. Prior to this role, Eugene held several significant positions at Xcel Energy from February 2012 to October 2019, including Outage Manager and Operations Work Control Center Manager. Eugene began a career in the industry at Entergy, where from February 1997 to February 2012, Eugene served as Operations Shift Manager, gaining extensive operational and planning expertise throughout the years.

Southern Nuclear operates a total of seven units for Alabama Power and Georgia Power at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan, Ala.; the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant near Baxley, Ga., and the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant near Waynesboro, Ga. The company recently achieved commercial operation on Vogtle Unit 3 and is the current licensee of Vogtle Unit 4, which is under construction. Both of these units represent historic achievements for the nuclear industry as the first new nuclear units to reach commercial operation and be built in the United States in the last three decades.
