Jeffrey Baier is an experienced nuclear operations professional with a strong background in training and reactor management. Currently serving as Lead Instructor for Licensed Operator Continuing Training at Southern Nuclear since August 2016, Jeffrey also holds expertise as a Nuclear Operations Training Instructor. Prior to this role, Jeffrey worked at Luminant from June 2009 to July 2016 as a Nuclear Reactor Operator, where responsibilities included monitoring and operating a dual-unit, Westinghouse 4-loop PWR. Jeffrey's career began in the US Navy from January 1989 to May 2009 as Chief Petty Officer, managing Machinery and Reactor Laboratories on multiple nuclear-powered submarines. Jeffrey holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Technology with a focus on Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State University, earned between 2013 and 2016, and an Associate of Arts with Honors from Florida State College at Jacksonville, completed in 2006.

Southern Nuclear operates a total of seven units for Alabama Power and Georgia Power at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan, Ala.; the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant near Baxley, Ga., and the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant near Waynesboro, Ga. The company recently achieved commercial operation on Vogtle Unit 3 and is the current licensee of Vogtle Unit 4, which is under construction. Both of these units represent historic achievements for the nuclear industry as the first new nuclear units to reach commercial operation and be built in the United States in the last three decades.
