Southland District Council
Southland is one of New Zealand's most beautiful areas, home to two National Parks and some of the most spectacular scenery the country has to offer. We have strong communities, friendly people and miles of wide open countryside. This region was built on the back of agriculture, which still plays an important role in the economy of the Southland District. Southland District Council manages around 30,979 square kilometres of the Deep South, home to more than 29.000 people. We look after most of Southland (excluding Gore & Invercargill which have their own councils). Southland District Council is responsible for the day-to-day running of our communities - looking after water, wastewater, stormwater, rubbish, animal control, cemeteries, environmental health, libraries, parks and reserves and roading. Through regulatory services, such as building control and resource management, Council ensures standards are met and our environment is looked after. Find out more about us at www.southlanddc.govt.nz
