Dr. Howard A. Kurtz

Dr. Howard A. Kurtz, PhD, is a Full Professor and Bernhardt Scholar at Southwestern Oklahoma State University since August 2013, specializing in teaching, scholarship, and service, with a focus as a Criminal Justice Analyst for the Media. With extensive experience in the academic field, Dr. Kurtz previously served as a Full Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Oklahoma City University from August 1979 to July 2012. Dr. Kurtz holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Post Doc in Crime Studies and a Mellon Foundation post-doctoral study in Social Science from Rice University, as well as a PhD in Sociology-Psychology and a PhD in Social Organization and Disorganization from the University of North Texas and the University of North Texas at Dallas, respectively. Research interests include crime and social issues, and Dr. Kurtz is available for research projects and consulting on crime-related topics.
