Ed Merritt

Ed Merritt serves as the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and the Institutional Review Board at Southwestern University, where responsibilities include teaching courses in anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, and muscle physiology, as well as conducting research on skeletal muscle in health and disease. Prior experience includes a position as Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University, focusing on exercise physiology and molecular regulators of skeletal muscle. Ed Merritt has also held roles as Associate Scientist and NRSA Postdoctoral Fellow at the UAB Center for Exercise Medicine and has contributed to the UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science and the UAB Center for Aging. Ed Merritt holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from The University of Texas at Austin and has actively participated in service roles, including as a Radiation Safety Officer and a member of various committees related to institutional governance and community engagement in science education.
