Senior Operations Research Analyst at SPA

Michael Krause has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Michael began their career in 1997 with the U.S. Coast Guard, where they held various positions of increasing responsibility. Michael served as a Deck Watch Officer on the USCGC POLAR STAR, conducting patrols in Antarctica and the Arctic Ocean. Michael then became the First Officer and Executive Officer of the USCG Cutter BLOCK ISLAND, supervising a crew and conducting law enforcement patrols in the Caribbean Sea and along the East Coast of the United States.

In 2001, Michael transitioned to the role of a Company Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where they guided the personal and professional development of aspiring Coast Guard officers. Michael also trained cadets in practical shiphandling and navigation.

Returning to operational roles, Michael became an Operations Officer on the USCGC ACTIVE, overseeing law enforcement patrols in the North Pacific Ocean, as well as counter-drug patrols in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

In 2007, Michael took on the role of a Senior Operations Research Analyst and deputy Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation Branch Chief in the U.S. Coast Guard. Michael managed a $13 million project portfolio using operations research and modeling and simulation to improve Coast Guard missions.

Continuing their upward trajectory, Michael served as the Polar Icebreaking Program Manager and Chief of the Mobility and Ice Operations Branch. Michael managed the U.S. Coast Guard's polar icebreaking, domestic icebreaking, and International Ice Patrol missions.

In 2014, Michael became the Supervisor of Military Personnel Program Delivery and Base Portsmouth Personnel Support Department Head, overseeing personnel services for 11,000 military members and their families in the mid-Atlantic region. Michael was responsible for crew readiness, pay support, morale program oversight, and housing availability.

Before joining their current position, Michael held the role of Director of Military Personnel Program Support and Chief of the Field Support Branch at the U.S. Coast Guard Personnel Service Center. Michael led a staff of 25+ employees and provided technical execution for major nationwide personnel services programs, supporting 40,000 military personnel and their families worldwide.

In 2020, Michael joined Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. as a Senior Operations Research Analyst.

Michael Krause has a diverse education history. Michael completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research from the US Coast Guard Academy, graduating in 1997. Later, from 2005 to 2007, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Computational Operations Research from William & Mary.

Throughout their professional career, Michael also obtained additional certifications. In January 2018, they achieved the SHRM-CP certification from the SHRM Certification institution. Subsequently, in October 2020, they obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification from the Project Management Institute.

In terms of further education, Michael completed a Certificate in Business Excellence from the William & Mary – Raymond A. Mason School of Business in 2019. Additionally, they obtained a Certificate in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration, General from George Mason University in 2017.
