Derek Shah is an aerospace engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley, expected to graduate in May 2026. Currently serving as the Propulsion Hardware Project Manager and Propulsion and Simulations Engineer at Space Enterprise at Berkeley since August 2022, Derek has led the design and fluid analysis of a coaxial shear injector for an 8kN liquid engine and developed a MATLAB sizing script to enhance engine efficiency. Previous internships include mechanical engineering roles at Astra and the Space Sciences Laboratory, where Derek contributed to the design of the Background Transient Observer for a space-bound telescope. Additionally, research work at the Combustion Fire Processes Laboratory focused on fire behavior in space conditions.
