Position Summary 

Sparkfund is hiring a Project Development Engineer based in Georgia to join our Project Development Engineering team as a technical subject matter expert on electrical vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). This person will provide design, application, and consulting services to our Commercial Solutions team as well as to our utility partners and customers throughout the project development lifecycle, from early conceptual designs to fully engineered drawings, scopes, and pricing. This person will be Sparkfund’s in-house EVSE SME, providing technical expertise and guidance on EVSE-related issues and projects directly to our partners, customers, and vendors, via external meetings and presentations, engineering assessments, and feasibility studies. This person will also support our Project Delivery team during and after project implementation.    

This position will report directly to the Director, Project Development and will work cross-functionally with many internal teams, including our Program Management, Commercial Solutions, Vendor Management, and Project Delivery teams. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, proactive problem-solver who takes initiative and demonstrates strong communication and technical skills.

Location 

Sparkfund is a fully remote company, this role will be based in Georgia. This role will include travel to customer offices and project sites in Georgia and the US up to 30% of the time, and proximity to a major airport is a strong preference. Additionally, we expect you to travel to Washington, DC and / or other US cities for organized team and / or company gatherings to collaborate with other members of the team / company, learn the ins and outs of our business, and contribute to our company culture.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Consult on the design, development, scope definition, and pricing of EVSE projects for our commercial and industrial customers. 
  • Collaborate closely with the Commercial Solutions team to understand the customer’s goals, challenges, and requirements for a project and to identify and develop technical solutions to meet these requirements goals. 
  • Generate high-level cost estimates to better qualify early-stage project opportunities – conduct site surveys or energy audits, analyze and assess system designs and energy usage data, and make preliminary equipment selections.
  • Conduct engineering assessments for proposed customer projects, ensuring the asset lifecycle meets the customer’s goals and budget.
  • Design and size EVSE systems, when necessary – conduct or review energy audits, review system layouts and site blueprints, review equipment / asset specifications, and perform load calculations and other engineering calculations. 
  • Consult on the selection of asset vendors and subcontractors, providing the Vendor Management team with technical and practical insight during the bid process.  
  • Provide consultative engineering services to customers and utility partners, including preparation of technical reports and support with presentation material.  
  • Coordinate timely and accurate handoff of data to and from multiple internal stakeholders on the Program Management, Commercial Solutions, Financial Solutions, Legal, and Delivery teams. 
  • Support the project implementation and post-implementation process as needed, providing the Project Management, Construction, and Customer Experience teams with historical data and technical consultations as requested. 
  • Represent Sparkfund and/or Sparkfund’s partner in front of customers, facility managers, subcontractors, vendors, and other external parties, ensuring all groups have a positive and professional experience. 
  • Apply expertise and lessons learned to the development of standard operating procedures, tools, processes, and other operations within Sparkfund, contributing to Sparkfund’s continued growth and success. 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of project development engineering experience in the EVSE space, including knowledge of project risks, key stakeholders, market incentives, and customer value propositions.
  • Technical expertise in EVSE projects and technologies (e.g., switchgear, transformers, electrical infrastructure charging stations, etc.) – specifically commercial-scale and/or industrial-scale projects.
  • Experience with the utility, ESCO, energy management, or construction industries.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.  
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts and topics effectively for non-technical audiences in written reports and documents and verbal presentations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects at one time, with a demonstrated ability to switch between contexts quickly and efficiently.
  • Skilled at making sound and defensible decisions with incomplete information.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term, trusting relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, or related technical field.
  • Experience with Level 1, Level 2 and DC Fast Charger EVSE projects including design, installation, commissioning, and ongoing support.
  • Relevant professional or trade certifications, such as Engineer in Training (EIT), Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., Energy Toolbase, Xendee) and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, Excel).
  • Competency in software and cloud-based information management tools, including Salesforce, GSuite, and other project management tools.
