Joe Burkinshaw has a diverse work experience that spans over a decade. Joe worked as a Geospatial Developer and Team Lead at Sparkgeo from April 2018 to the present. Prior to that, they were a Consultant and Developer at Forte Consulting Ltd. from November 2013 to March 2018. In this role, they focused on consulting for various customers in the telecommunications industry and provincial and local government. Joe was involved in all stages of project life-cycle and designed and implemented geospatial data pipelines.
Before that, Joe worked as an Outdoor Education Instructor at the Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre from August 2012 to October 2013. Here, they were responsible for facilitating and leading activities and multi-day wilderness trips, educating students on wilderness ethics and responsible stewardship, and managing groups and risk in challenging environments.
Joe also worked as a GIS Developer at WSP Group from October 2010 to May 2012. In this role, they specialized in GIS and mapping projects for rail, road, and urban infrastructure development, wind energy developments, and environmental studies. Joe developed custom software solutions to streamline GIS workflows across the engineering consultancy.
Joe'searliest work experience was as a Geologist and Environmental Consultant at Ashton Bennett Consultancy in June 2009. Joe'sresponsibilities included researching and writing geo-environmental site assessments and conducting ground investigations.
Joe Burkinshaw's education history shows that they obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours - BSc (Hons) degree in Geology and Physical Geography from The University of Edinburgh. Joe pursued their Master of Science - MSc degree in Geographical Information Science (GIS) from the same institution.
