Over the past several years, as kettlebells, crossfitness, and spartacus type workouts became popular, Dr Leon Hodes, a former collegiate swimmer, and avid fitness and wellness fanatic became frustrated that there was something missing with these routines. Dumbbells are sufficient for some movements, but not for pushups, abdominal routines or kettlebell swinging

Kettlebells are designed so the center of gravity actually shifts during the course of the exercise, but they are not appropriate for some routines.
