Emily Embry has a diverse work experience with various roles in different organizations. Emily started their career as a Summer Intern at Henry County Heritage Center in 2005. Emily then worked as a Substitute Teacher at Ovilla Christian School in 2006. Emily joined The Women's Museum in 2007, where they served as a Project & Tour Coordinator and later as an Assistant Volunteer Coordinator. Emily then became the Archives Manager at The Hockaday School from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, Emily worked as a Library Technician at the National Park Service and as a Branch Manager at Oconee County, South Carolina. Currently, they are the Director of Projects & Outreach at Spartanburg County Public Libraries, where they lead the Projects & Outreach Department and focuses on building external relationships while fulfilling the library system's mission and vision.
Emily Embry earned their Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree with a specialization in Library Science from the University of North Texas, where they studied from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in History (Social Science) from Bethel University, where they attended from 2004 to 2006. In addition to their formal education, Emily also obtained a certification in "Making the Most of Your Assessment" from the American Institute for Conservation & Foundation for Advancement in Conservation in September 2019.

Spartanburg’s first Library opened in 1885, 128 years ago, on Morgan Square. The Headquarters and nine branch libraries including the Bookmobile, Home Delivery and the Libraries’ online digital library meet the informational and educational needs of the County through a comprehensive slate of services. Over 90% of Spartanburg County’s population lives within 5 miles of a public library; over 1.8 million items were checked‐out; 1.5 million patrons visited the Library for services including programs, meeting rooms and reader services; and 1.1 million patrons used the Library’s online digital resources.
