Kevin Zhang

Kevin Zhang has extensive work experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and software development. Kevin has held various roles throughout their career, starting with their current position as GIO and Chief Solution Architect at Spatial Front, Inc since December 2016. Prior to this, they were the CTO and Senior Applications Architect at the same company from May 2014 to November 2016.

Before joining Spatial Front, Kevin worked at Fugro Geospatial Inc. as a Ph.D. Senior Application Architect and Team Lead from September 2011 to June 2014. During this time, they designed the Fugro PXMapperOnline solution, led software development projects, and managed a team of six developers. Kevin also served as a Ph.D. Senior Application Architect and Radar Processing Engineer at Fugro Geospatial Inc. from February 2009 to September 2011.

Prior to their tenure at Fugro Geospatial Inc., Kevin worked at Data Enhancement Services, LLC, where they were the CTO and Chief Solution Architect from March 2007 to February 2009. In this role, they were responsible for project design, proposal development, and managed a team of 25 IT/developers working on various GIS integration projects.

Kevin's career started at EarthData International, LLC in May 2001, where they served as a Senior GIS Developer and Team Lead until April 2007. In this role, they led the development of the Project Tracker application and other GIS software projects. Kevin also worked at ARTS/Geo-Serv as a Senior Application Developer and Team Lead from February 2002 to December 2003. Here, they contributed to the development of MAF/TIGER specifications and led software development projects.

Before entering the industry, Kevin gained academic experience at the University Of Rhold Island as a Post-Doctoral Associate from October 1999 to March 2001. Kevin worked on a project funded by NASA NIP in Earth Science. Kevin also worked as a Post-Doctoral Associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago from November 1997 to September 1999. There, they worked on a project funded by NASA, focusing on tracking natural community fragmentation and changes in land use and land cover using remote sensing data and GIS analysis.

Throughout their career, Kevin Zhang has demonstrated expertise in GIS, software architecture, project management, and team leadership.

Kevin Zhang received a Ph.D in Geoinformatics (Remote Sensing and GIS) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, graduating in 1997. Kevin also obtained a Master of Engineering degree in GIS and Mapping from Liaoning Technical University, completing their studies in 1992.

Additionally, Kevin Zhang has obtained several certifications including being a Certificated Apache Mahout Professional from Edureka, a Certificated DevOps Professional from Edureka, a Certificated Enterprise Architect from The Open Group, and a Certificated MongoDB Developer from Edureka.
