Michael Winquist

Michael Winquist serves as a Board Member for Special Olympics Rhode Island since January 2024 and holds the position of Chief of Police at the Cranston Police Department since October 2014. Winquist is also a Commission Member with the RI E 9-1-1 Advisory Commission, Secretary of the RI Police Chiefs’ Association, and Chair of the RI Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training, all since January 2020 and May 2018 respectively. Prior experience includes a notable tenure with the Rhode Island State Police, where Winquist advanced from State Trooper to Lieutenant Colonel, overseeing various divisions, including the Intelligence Unit and Fusion Center. Winquist holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Anna Maria College and a Bachelor's degree in the same field from Roger Williams University, along with further education from the FBI National Academy and other institutions.
