Ken Merry

Software Architect at Spectra Logic

Ken Merry has a diverse range of work experience in the software engineering field. Ken started their career in 1993 as a Co-op at Georgia Tech Research Institute, where they designed and implemented a real-time driving simulator. From 1997 to 2000, they worked as a Software Design Engineer at Pluto Technologies International, where they co-wrote the CAM SCSI subsystem for FreeBSD and developed various peripheral drivers.

In 2000, Ken joined Avid Technology as a Senior Engineer until 2001. Afterwards, they worked at Adaptec as a Software Engineer, where they designed and implemented extensions to the Linux software RAID stack and revamped error recovery framework for FreeBSD's CAM SCSI subsystem.

From 2002 to 2010, Ken was a Software Architect at Copan Systems, Inc. Ken led the MAID shelf software group and implemented a Linux-based SCSI target layer, which they later ported to FreeBSD. In 2010, Ken joined Spectra Logic as a Software Architect and became the team lead for the data path group. Ken worked on various projects, including nTier Verde, Black Pearl, and other upcoming products, specializing in FreeBSD, Xen, LTFS, CAM SCSI subsystem, SAS drivers, and debugging.

Throughout their career, Ken has also been involved with The FreeBSD Project since 1998. Ken started as a Developer/Committer and made significant contributions, co-authoring the CAM SCSI layer and authoring the CTL SCSI target framework. Ken continues to maintain and support CAM and CTL, along with providing code reviews and mentoring fellow developers.

Overall, Ken Merry has a wealth of experience in software engineering, particularly in storage, RAID, SCSI, and FreeBSD systems.

Ken Merry completed their Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree in the field of Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1992 to 1997.
